Officials at the Seneca Park Zoo say they’re sad to announce the death of the Zoo’s Amur tiger, Anastasia.
The 12-year-old female tiger was born at Seneca Park in 2005, and died after several weeks of illness. Zoo veterinarians noticed she was having health issues six weeks ago and made continuing efforts to treat her condition, but she continued to decline and finally had to be euthanized.
A necropsy confirmed the tiger had cancer which had spread to her lungs.
Anastasia’s sister, Katya, continues to live at the zoo.
