mugshot-wilbernThe suspect charged in the 2003 robbery and murder at the Xerox Federal Credit Union in Webster now faces additional charges of possession of a firearm.

Richard Wilbern was brought back into court this morning where an indictment was unsealed. According to the papers, when Wilbern originally went to talk with the FBI about being the victim of a scam, he hold them he had property stored in his girlfriend’s garage. The FBI got a warrant and searched that garage at the end of September.

The complaint says they found four semi-automatic rifles, two of them partially loaded, plus a black ski mask and other items. The firearms are evidently not the ones used in the robbery 13 years ago, which were handguns and possibly a shotgun. But as a previously convicted felon, Wilbern shouldn’t have owned firearms of any kind.

Wilbern is a former Xerox employee, accused of robbing the credit union and shooting bank customer Ray Batzel to death. He was arrested in September after his DNA linked him to the crime scene.

Wilbern will be returned to court December 15. At that time we may learn if he will face the federal death penalty if convicted.
