World War II paratrooper John Cipolla of Greece died this week at the age of 95.
Cipolla was often sought out by the media for comments at veterans’ events because of his well-known war record. He jumped into Normandy on D-Day, jumped into Holland for the “Market Garden” invasion and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as well. He won the Purple Heart after being wounded three times in combat.
Cipolla was among the American troops who captured Hitler’s retreat, the “Eagle’s Nest” in the Bavarian Alps.
