Paramedics declared a man dead early Sunday morning after a wrong-way crash on Route 490 westbound near Route 31 in Perinton.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the wrong-way driver smashed head-on into a car driven by 31-year-old Gregory Waldron of Rochester, who told deputies he was driving west on 490 when he saw the dead man’s car coming at him near exit 26. He was unable to avoid the other car.
Waldron couldn’t avoid the oncoming car and was hit head-on. He suffered only minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. The wrong-way driver was apparently killed instantly. Deputies were still working to identify him. The investigation is continuing.
