A contractor was revived with a defibrillator today after he slumped unconscious while working in a manhole in downtown Rochester.
A safety monitor saw what happened and co-workers pulled the man to the street by his safety harness before restarting his heart with a defibrillator. Rural Metro Ambulance crews treated the man and took him to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.
The injured man is an employee of O’Connell Electric. His name has not been released. OSHA investigated the scene and is trying to determine if the man was electrocuted or had a heart attack. The crew was supposed to be working on a non-live circuit.
