Rochester police pulled two women away from a burning car early Thursday morning after it crashed into a bridge near Saxton and Maple Streets on the West Side.

Police say the car had crashed into the railroad bridge over Saxton Street and was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Two women were found lying beside the wrecked car and were carried to safety. Both were taken to Strong with serious injuries, but both are expected to recover.

Police say it appears to be a single car crash but they continue to investigate how it happened.
