A Rochester woman suffered multiple burns when fire broke out in her apartment on Rohr Street early Monday morning.

The Rochester Fire Department says an ambulance responding to a call of a woman in pain found the fire in the upstairs apartment. They say the apartment was full of thick smoke but the fire was confined to the second floor. Crews say the woman occupying the apartment was injured, and her cat did not survive the smoke.

The building will require extensive repairs, but first floor tenants were able to return home. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
