A member of the Rochester Fire Department protectives on his way to class this morning saw smoke coming from a neighbor’s house and rescued her from a fire.

The Rochester Fire Department says Brady Hawkins saw smoke coming from 189 Adams Street about 8:45 this morning. He helped the woman get out of her house before firefighters arrived to find a fire on the second floor. They were able to quickly control the fire before it spread and caused major damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Red Cross is assisting the occupant of the house with temporary shelter.
