The 20-year-old woman charged in a fatal Brighton crash last fall pleaded not guilty Wednesday in town court.

Ninoshka Vazquez-Ruiz was behind the wheel when her car went off Edgewood Avenue and over the sidewalk, killing a nine-year-old girl and her babysitter. A two-year-old child was seriously injured.

Police say Vazquez-Ruiz was driving without a license and going 63 miles per hour in a 30 zone at the time she left the road. Her attorney says she fell asleep because she’d been up all night taking car of her sick baby. She was on her way back from the doctor’s with the baby in the car at the time of the crash.
