Greece Police are holding a 24-year-old Rochester woman on $25,000 bail after she allegedly ran over an officer’s legs while trying to flee from a shoplifting incident.

Gabrielle Thomas has been charged with robbery, assault, reckless endangerment and driving without a license. She was arrested after she and another woman allegedly stole merchandise from the American Eagle store at the Greece Ridge Center Mall.

Officer Jacob Phelan was working a detail at the mall. He and other officers gave chase as the two women ran to a car and tried to get away. Phelan caught up with them, but was run over by the fleeing car as Thomas drove away. She lost control of the car and crashed into a curb near the Mitchell Road exit, disabling the car. Both women ran, and Thomas was caught. The other woman is still being sought.

Deputy Chief Casey Voelkl says Officer Phelan is recovering at home and was not seriously injured. Voelkl says it could have been much worse.
