Congressman Chris Collins has introduced legislation that would restrict installation of wind turbines near military installations, particularly the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
The Western New York Republican is siding with some landowners in Orleans and Niagara Counties who want to block Apex Clean Energy from building a pair of wind turbine farms near the Lake Ontario shoreline in those two counties. Other landowners support the project and want to lease their property to the green energy company.
Apex says its studies show there won’t be any impact on the air station, which is at the opposite end of Niagara County from where it would build the wind towers. They would be in the neighborhood of 500 feet tall.
