According to the University of Rochester’s campus newspaper, the names of confidential witnesses in the UR sex abuse scandal investigation were inadvertently put on the internet.
When the independent investigation headed by Attorney Mary Jo White first posted its report earlier this month, it included names of the confidential informants who had been told their identities would remain anonymous. The names were removed within an hour, but by then the report had been copied and shared numerous times.
One of the women whose identity was compromised told the Campus Times that the law firm of Debevoise and Plimpton should have used more care, since the report itself talks about the possibility of professional retaliation against the witnesses.
The report documented allegations against professor Florian Jaeger and how the university responded to them. A half-dozen professors and graduate students filed an EEOC complaint against the university, saying it mishandled the matter and retaliated against those who spoke up.
A spokesperson for the university did not comment.
