A Monroe County Travel Advisory was lifted at 5:00 Monday morning as the Rochester area continued working out from under the damage caused by Sunday afternoon’s wind storm.
The storm was part of a record-setting day for Rochester weather. The temperature rose to 73 degrees as the storm approached, beating the old record of 70 for March 6th. The peak wind gust at the airport as the storm passed was 72 miles per hour.
Rochester Gas and Electric and National Grid reported more than 22,000 customers lost electric service in Monroe, Wayne and Cayuga Counties. Trees and power lines were toppled, roofs damaged and a tractor trailer was blown over on I-490 West near the Buffalo Road Exit according to State Police. More than 6,800 customers are still without power as of Monday morning, according to RG&E.
