Wilmorite Corporation has released concept designs for a planned reuse of the old soybean mill on the Erie Canal at Schoen Place in Pittsford.

The bean mill is the last of the old canalside industrial buildings the Schoen Place neighborhood not to be repurposed as an attraction. The developer sees renovating the stone building into a “boutique hotel-spa-restaurant.” It would have mixed-use retail and office space, greenspace and gardens and a large amount of parking. They would keep the New England farm style of the central building and build the additions to the same style.

The Roger Powers family currently owns the property and has it under contract to Wilmorite. Company President Paul Wilmot says they’ve briefed the village mayor on their plans and will bring them before the village planning board when they’re fleshed out.
