Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott either really, really wants the edge against his former team, the Carolina Panthers, in a preseason game, or he’s really, really intent on keeping secrets.

Regardless of which, McDermott declined to name a starting quarterback on Tuesday, which will be Buffalo’s final full practice prior to facing the Panthers on Thursday at New Era Field.

“We’ve got a plan. We’ll talk about that as (the team) moves forward here,” McDermott said. “I believe in sharing it with the players, first. So that’s what we’ll do. We’ll talk about it, we’ve got a plan, like I’ve said. We’ll continue to talk about it as we get into our game plan and we’ll go from there.”

McDermott also confirmed that the team would stay with the same rotation that they’ve installed throughout the start of training camp. That mean AJ McCarron would take first-team reps while Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen would take reps with the second-team and third-team, respectively.

However, McDermott did add there could be an interesting twist to Thursday’s decision. While many have focused on whether or McCarron or Peterman will get the start, McDermott said there’s a chance that both could see time with the ones.

“Yeah, it could be,” McDermott said.

It doesn’t appear that Allen would get any of the first-team reps. During the first week of training camp, Allen would lead a series or two with the starters during team drills, but he hasn’t done so over the past three sessions.
