The West Irondequoit School District says burn marks on the artificial turf field at Irondequoit High School appear to be the work of vandals.
On its web page, West Irondequoit says that’s based on the report it received from fire investigators. The burned spot is six-to-eight feet around and it was discovered last month. There was some thought at first that it might have been caused by a lightning strike.
Repairs are being made at a cost of about $10,000. The burned area has been cordoned off until the work is completed and the rest of the field is still available for the summer camp groups that reserved it.
