A Webster man will be sentenced in October after admitting he set fire to a rental house he owned on Emerson Street.

Andrzej Gierczak of Webster pleaded guilty to attempted arson for the insurance money. He was originally charged with first degree arson for setting fire to the vacant second floor of the house at 593 Emerson Street four years ago. The first floor tenant and her children got out safely. The building was heavily damaged.

The 60-year-old Gierczak switched his plea as his third trial on the charge was about to get underway. His first trial ended in a mistrial, and the second in a hung jury. The Rochester Arson Task Force says he’s agreed to serve prison time as part of a plea agreement.
