Gavel 1A Wayne County woman has been indicted by a grand jury on four counts of causing serious physical injury to a child passenger while driving drunk.

Irene Hughes of Marion was behind the wheel when she crashed last October on Route 441 in Penfield with her two children in the back seat. Her car went airborne and crashed into a tree before landing upside down. Her daughters, 15-year-old Kali Pearse and 7-year-old Betsy Ross, were seriously injured. Hughes escaped with minor injuries.

In addition to the causing serious injury charge, the 39-year-old woman has also been indicted on charges of assault, vehicular assault, and driving while impaired by both alcohol and drugs.
