The Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board says it’s continuing to release the maximum possible amount of water from Lake Ontario…because June and July so far have continued to be wetter than usual.

The board has been releasing more than 367,000 cubic feet per second, which is enough to fill more than four Olympic-sized swimming pools every second. But the International Joint Commission says inflow to the Lake Ontario remains above average.

Despite that, the water level on the lake has gradually dropped over the past couple of weeks. It’s now 7.9 inches less than the record 249 feet recorded back in May.
