In a letter to City Council, Mayor Lovely Warren is asking that the City of Rochester join a lawsuit against opioid drug makers, seeking to recover the costs associated with the drug epidemic.
Council will take up the measure at its March 19th meeting.
Warren wants the city to hire the law firm of Napoli Shkolnik, which is representing dozens of local governments across the country in similar lawsuits. Monroe County has already joined a similar effort.
Last year there were 1,133 overdoses in Monroe County, and 166 of them were fatal.
