Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren has appointed a new judge to the Rochester City Court, Replacing Leticia Astacio who was removed from office by the state.

 

Mayor Warren’s office says Melissa Barrett will fill the vacancy on City Court.  She’s a principal court attorney and a defense lawyer practicing before the City Court. She previously served as a public defender and was an assistant counsel for the U.S. Small Business Administration.

 

Two years ago, she ran for County Court Judge.

 

Barrett was the recommendation of a screening committee appointed by the mayor.

 

Mayor Warren says in a statement that she’s pleased to appoint Barrett, whom she calls a person with the right experience and temperament to ensure that justice is served for all our citizens.
