Monroe County Democrats gave their designation to Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren at Thursday night’s designating convention.
That’s a first for the mayor, who beat the party’s last designee in a primary to win the nomination and then the election. This time, Warren easily won enough votes to be the convention’s choice over former News Anchor Rachel Barnhart and former Rochester Police Chief Jim Sheppard.
Warren accepted the nomination saying unemployment and crime are down, while graduation rates and development projects are up.
Rachel Barnhart didn’t attend the convention, but issued a statement saying it’s important for voters to have a choice and she intends to give them one in the September 12th primary.
Also on Thursday night County Democrats named former Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter their candidate for sheriff.
