Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren is closing down the city’s playgrounds, basketball courts and other athletic fields to help stop spreading the coronavirus.
The mayor said Friday afternoon that too many people continue to play basketball and use the other facilities despite social distancing. She said pickup games and large gatherings at athletic fields risk passing the disease. Warren says she wants people to be outside and to walk or run, but not gather in groups or play games in which you come into contact with other people.
City crews will remove basketball hoops and some other equipment to discourage such use of city parks.
