Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren called for City School District leaders to follow the recommendations of a state-appointed consultant during her “State of the CIty” address Tuesday night.

The mayor also pointed to statistics showing a drop in city crime rates and talked about a plan to grow jobs in the city by 2034, Rochester’s Bicentennial.

Warren said the plan delivered by Distinguished Educator Jamie Aquino and State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia is the solution to Rochester’s failing schools. It calls for a complete reorganization of the district and its leadership.

Warren did not mention mayoral control of schools, but said she’s working with the community for better schools, saying people need to get off the sidelines and seize the opportunity to make every school a beacon of hope.
