On this first full day of summer with near record heat, area police are warning people not to leave dogs or other pets in a car with the windows up…even if you think you’ll be back in 10 minutes.
On an 85 degree day the inside of a car will top 100 degrees in that 10 minutes, even with the windows down a couple of inches.
Gates Police say they charged a man over the weekend after finding his dog in a car in full sunlight on a 90 degree day. The officer got the dog out of the car and into the patrol car with the AC on. The owner came out of the store 15 minutes later and was ticketed under the state’s animal cruelty laws.
