Voters in Walworth have decided to keep their Town Clerk’s job an elected position.

A special election was held yesterday on a proposal to switch to an appointed clerk. When the ballots were counted last night, 1,217 voted to keep things as they are, to only 178 in favor of abolishing the elected office. There are 53 absentee ballots still to be counted, which won’t change the outcome.

The town called the vote after petitions were filed for a special election. Allegations of misconduct and harassment were made against the current Town Clerk, Susie Jacobs. Jacobs in turn filed a notice of claim against the town as a first step towards a lawsuit.
