Thirteen people were shot and one stabbed over a violent July 4th weekend in Rochester, and one police officer investigating a shooting was assaulted by members of a crowd. Nobody was killed, and all the injured are recovering.

The incidents ranged from a shooting on Saratoga Avenue Friday that injured a city man to a double shooting on Jefferson Avenue near Samuel McCree Way, to a triple shooting that injured two men and a woman at Chili and Post Avenues.

Police arrested 34-year-old Shallah Sherman on various weapons possession, reckless endangerment and stolen property charges in connection with that last shooting.

Twelve minutes later a 28-year-old man was shot on Rugby Avenue and was left with serious injuries.

And shortly after that, a 16-year-old was shot in the face near Pennsylvania Avenue and Sixth Street. Officers investigating this case were approached by a crowd of about 25 people who began to shout and, push and shove the officers. One officer was punched in the face and another suffered a minor injury coming to his aid.

Police arrested 30-year-old Batholomew Murdock with assault and obstructing governmental administration. They also charged 28-year-old Alyssa Sadwick and 29-year-old Christopher Nelson and 36-year-old Joel Dow of Brighton with various charges including resisting arrest.

These and other shootings over the weekend remain under investigation.
