For the second time in two days, Rochester Police Chief Michael Ciminelli says an officer has been suspended after video surfaced of an arrest that might have gone overboard.
The police body camera footage shows an officer choking a person who had already been taken into custody and handcuffed.
At a news conference, the chief and Mayor Lovely Warren said the video showed the aftermath of the large fight earlier this month at East Avenue and Alexander Street in the East End. About 300 people were involved or caught up in the turmoil as they left bars and clubs at closing time. More than half-a-dozen people were arrested.
The chief didn’t name the officer involved, but he and Mayor Warren say the officer has been suspended and an internal investigation is underway. The FBI has also been called in to make its own investigation.
Mayor Warren says the city won’t tolerate when protocol isn’t followed.
