The Victor Town Board has approved a budget that doubles the town’s property tax rate to close a budget gap originally created by an accounting blunder.
The four-to-one vote will raise Victor property taxes by 74 cents per thousand dollars of assessed value. That takes it from 76 cents to $1.60 per thousand.
The accounting error was made by an outside firm hired by the town and left it with a depleted fund balance. Many Victor residents who attended the public hearing on the budget called it mismanagement.
