The Victor Town Board voted Tuesday night to override its tax cap, meaning the town tax rate could nearly double when the budget comes up for a vote next month.
The town is talking about raising its property tax rate from 76 cents per thousand dollars to $1.60 per thousand. That means a $200,000 home would go from $152 a year in town tax to $320.
The reason is a big error made by the town’s previous auditors which caused the town to inadvertently draw down it fund balance.
A large crowd of taxpayers upset with having to make up for the blunder attended the board meeting and will probably be back at the budget public hearing on October 24th.
The vote on next year’s budget is November 14th.
