The Rochester Police Major Crimes Unit has charged the victim’s wife in connection with last weekend’s fatal crash on Lake Avenue.
The crash killed 50-year-old Maurice Johnson, who was riding in a car that turned left in front of another vehicle at Lake and Phelps Avenues. The crash fatally injured Johnson, who had to be pried out of the car and died later at the hospital.
Police say Johnson’s wife, Malachia Wallace-Johnson, was driving when she caused the crash. She fled the scene and was arrested yesterday.
Wallace-Johnson has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, aggravated unlicensed operation and driving a car without an alcohol interlock device. Her license had been revoked for a prior DWI conviction and had 21 suspensions.
The case is going to a grand jury which may consider additional charges.
