A Monroe County Court Judge has reversed the conviction of Silvon Simmons, who was accused of firing a shot at a Rochester Police Officer in 2016.

Simmons was to have been sentenced today, but Judge Christopher Ciaccio ruled that the Rochester Shot Spotter system had given the trial jury incomplete evidence and hindered the defense.

Rochester Police Officer Joseph Ferrigno was chasing Simmons and fired back when Simmons shot at him, wounding Simmons in the back.

Last year, a jury found Simmons not guilty of attempted murder, but guilty of criminal possession of a weapon. The jury concluded that his gun had been loaded and fired.
