New York State Police say an Allegany County man tried to burn down a man’s house…after the homeowner refused to refund his money when he wanted to return a couple of vehicles he bought.

Troopers say  74-year-old Gary Marvel bought a farm tractor and a van from the homeowner in Almond. Something wasn’t satisfactory, and Marvel asked to return them. The homeowner refused to refund his money.

A couple of days later, the homeowner’s house caught fire. Allegany County fire investigators found it had been set. Witnesses reported seeing Marvel carrying items that were used to start the fire.

Marvel is currently being held on felony arson charges. Bail was set at $5,000.
