UR Medicine has opened its first Outpatient Imaging Center, moving diagnostic X-ray and other imaging out of Strong Memorial Hospital and into a new building on the University of Rochester Campus.
URMC head Dr. Mark Taubman says the 90,000 square foot center puts the outpatient services on East River Road, right off the 390 Expressway. It’s in the same building that houses the new William and Mildred Levene Autism Clinic. Hospital patients will continue to be served by the dedicated facilities in Strong Memorial Hospital and the Golisano Children’s Hospital, but they’ll no longer be juggling the same facilities with people who need diagnostic scans. That will give hospital officials a chance to rebuild and modernize the hospital radiology facilities.
Those rooms at Strong Memorial have run 24-7 for years and provide more than half-a-million imaging tests a year.
