The University of Rochester Medical Center has announced it will immediately discontinue its special patient services and phase out its Executive Health Program by June 30th.

URMC CEO Mark Taubman said the decision was made in consultation with university leaders, faculty, medical students and other members of the UR community. He said both programs no longer reflect the URMC’s values.

The programs were credited with providing high-end medical treatment for wealthy individuals, and were blamed for a decision that allowed some major donors to the university to skip ahead in the coronavirus vaccine line.

Taubman says the URMC is deeply committed to the goals of its Equity and Anti-Racism Action Plan, which requires it to foster equity as a health care system. He says discontinuing a program that focused on a small number of privileged individuals will enable them to improve access to services for all.
