The Urban League of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology are collaborating on a project they hope will encourage the community to identify steps it can take to address systematic racism and inequity.
The platform they’re developing is called INTERRUPT RACISM. It wants to engage all members of the Rochester community in sharing ideas to help it heal and move forward. The Urban League will act as a community-wide suggestion box for the voices of people who might not otherwise be heard in rooms where decisions are made. They particularly want to hear ideas from frontline essential service and healthcare workers…from teachers, parents and students…from veterans, and from small business owners.
Urban League CEO Dr. Seanelle Hawkins says they value the opinions of government and business officials, but they already have influence in policy. He says now is the time to let individual voices be heard.
