A group of doctors, nurses and medical staff from the University of Rochester Medical Center left for Puerto Rico early this morning, where millions remain without power or clean drinking water more than a month after Hurricane Maria blasted the island.
The seven went to help people in need of medical help and also to spell the local doctors and nurses who have been working non-stop since the storm. They’ll be working at Puerto Rican hospitals, most of which are still running on power from their generators.
FEMA announced $500 million more in aid for Puerto Rico yesterday, about two-thirds of it going to help get the power back on. The entire electric grid is being rebuilt from scratch.
