The University of Rochester and the George Eastman House Museum have united two collections of George Eastman’s papers at the Eastman Museum.
The two have agreed to merge their holdings. The University’s Department of Rare Books and Special Collections has held a group of letters and photos since 1976. It’s added them to the Eastman House George Eastman Legacy Collection.
The museum originally gave those items to the university for safekeeping because at the time it wasn’t a full-fledged museum. Now it’s equipped to care for them and make them available for scholars. They hold more than 50,000 items.
