The University of Rochester announced Wednesday night that it’s shifting to remote learning for the month of January, except for clinical classes in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing.

The university said it will have more details available Thursday, but made the announcement the night before to give students as much notice as possible.

The U of R says students already on campus may stay and shelter in place. Dining, health and other services will still be available. Students who have not yet arrived on campus should stay home, according to the university’s web site. The university says “our strong preference is for students not to return to campus at this time.”

The U of R says this is a temporary situation caused by the Omicron variant of COVID. University President Sarah Mangelsdorf called for flexibility and patience from everyone involved.
