Both the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology are responding to the Trump immigration order as they work out how their international students will be affected.
RIT says its international student service is gathering all the information it can find on the order. It currently has 45 students from the seven countries barred under the order. Those students have been advised not to travel out of the US for at least 30 days while they monitor the situation and find out more information.
The U of R says it will hold a special information session on Wednesday with representatives who can answer students’ questions about their status.
The U of R’s Provost for Global Engagement says in a statement that the university doesn’t provide lists or information based on immigration status to outside authorities…and U of R Public Safety won’t detain, seek out or assist in deporting students based solely on immigration status.
