New York’s two United States Senators are pushing for an $85 million federal highway grant to completely rebuild the Lyell Avenue Corridor.
That’s the part of Gates where Lyell Avenue, I-490 and I-390 come together. It handles about 200,000 vehicles a day.
Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand say the money would come from the new FASTLANE highway program. It would demolition and a rebuild the entire massive interchange on a new alignment…. so drivers going from 490 west to 390 north would no longer have to swap lanes with people trying to exit at Lyell Avenue.
