The young man who as a teenager shot and critically injured a Rochester police officer is back in jail after violating parole.
Tyquan Rivera was released from prison last July. State parole authorities settled him in the Buffalo area, with the requirement that he remain in Erie County. They say Rivera failed to do, failed to make curfew and changed his address without reporting it to his parole officer. He was arrested and sent back to prison for one year.
Rivera was just 14 when he was found guilty of shooting officer Anthony DiPonzio in the head in 2009. He was sentenced as a juvenile to three-and-a-third to ten years in prison.
DiPonzio underwent three years of surgery and rehab and was finally able to return to duty.
