A violent Wednesday for Rochester continued late last night as officers responded to a car hitting several pedestrians on Carter Street. They found the incident had started with a knife fight in which two women were stabbed.
It happened about 10:50 last night near the corner of Carter Street and Roycroft Drive. Police are still sorting out the details, but say two young women were involved in a fight down the street from the accident scene, each being stabbed in the upper body.
They got into a car and drove off, crashing into a couple of other drivers and running down two other young women before hitting a tree. Both women suffered cuts and bruises and were treated at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The stabbing victims who crashed the car were driven from the scene by someone else before police got there and taken to Rochester General Hospital. Everybody is expected to recover.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Earlier on Wednesday, seven people were shot in three different incidents in Rochester.
Police have identified one of the victims as 26-year-old Michael Cooper of Rochester. He was dropped off by a car on Norfolk Street near Strong Hospital. He’d been shot several times somewhere else, and police were trying to figure out where. He’s expected to recover.
A 19-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy were shot and wounded earlier in the day on 4th Street near the Public Market — and four people were shot and wounded in the evening in some kind of fight on Genesee Street at Dr. Samuel McCree Way.
That made seven shootings and two stabbings over a nine hour period.
