Federal prosecutors say two defendants pleaded guilty this week for their role in last year’s violent protest in downtown Rochester.

The protest following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis led to the burning of two cars and a construction office, smashed glass and looting in May of 2020 in Rochester.

Defendangts Shakell Sanks and Mackenzie Drechsler pleaded guilty to rioting charges. They were accused with torching a car belonging to the city and one belonging to the State Attorney General’s Office. Dreschler was also accused of smashing glass downtown.

Dreschler was ordered held until sentencing as a danger to the community.
