Two men who led a group of people into a “no swimming” area of the Letchworth Gorge have pled guilty to charges of criminally negligent homicide in Wyoming County Court.
Tyler Jennings and Chad Staley, both Rochester men in their 30s, led a group of five children into a “restricted access” area of the park at the 70-foot-tall lower falls. They waded out into the water at the brink where someone slipped. That caused a chain reaction that yanked everyone off their feet and over the edge.
Police said their actions led to the deaths of nine-year-old Dylan Giangregorio and six-year-old Preston Giangregorio. Both children went under and never came back up. Their bodies were recovered days later.
A pre-sentencing report was ordered, and they’ll be back for sentencing in May.
