Gates police say a confrontation between two men over a disabled vehicle led to them wrestling for control of a handgun.
Police say shortly after 10:00 a.m. a man was spotted by police with a handgun in a parking lot off Lyell Avenue. He dropped the gun and cooperated with police, who learned he had taken it away from another man who first pulled it on him.
The incident began when the man’s car broke down. Another man pulled up in a different car and a confrontation resulted, with the newly-arrived man pulling out a gun. Both men wrestled for the pistol, which went off. The shot didn’t hit anyone. The suspect got back into his car and drove into the City of Rochester, leaving the first man in possession of his gun. Police released the first man on confirming his story from numerous witnesses.
The man who pulled out the gun was stopped by New York State police in the city and detained the driver. Police are still investigating and no charges have been filed yet.
