The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has identified a couple killed in an early Tuesday morning crash in Penfield as 24-year-old Pavel Laune of Webster and 28-year-old Melody Stacklyn of Walworth.

Both lost their lives when their car went off Harris Road and crashed into a wooded area.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says the crash was reported about 4:45 Tuesday morning, but it apparently happened some hours before that. Neighbors reported hearing a crash about 3:30 a.m. but couldn’t see anything when they looked out. Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn says that’s because the car went airborne and landed in a patch of woods where it rolled over and crashed into some trees.

One victim was thrown from the vehicle and the other remained trapped inside. Investigators say the car was probably speeding.
