Two house fires kept the Rochester Fire Department busy on Tuesday evening.
The first broke out at 251 Alphonse St. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from a two story vacant house. They forced their way into the boarded-up structure and found fire on the first and second floors, which they quickly extinguished. One firefighters suffered a sprained ankle.
Neighbors said the house was being used for drug activity.
The second fire came a couple of hours later at 35 Skylane Drive. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second story of a house. Three occupants made it out safely, but the house was heavily damaged by smoke and water.
An unattended curling iron probably caused the fire.
