Rochester police are investigating two fatal accidents on Lake Avenue that took place a few hours apart.

At about 4:30 Wednesday morning, a car went off the road and into a tree, killing the driver. This happened near the corner of Lake Avenue and Seneca Parkway in the Maplewood Neighborhood. Police say the driver was dead at the scene. His name is not being released yet pending notification of next of kin.

Hours earlier, at about 8:30 Tuesday night, an apparent drunk driver struck and killed a pedestrian who was crossing Lake Avenue between Ravine Avenue and Glendale Park. Police say the 43-year-old victim suffered severe head trauma and died after being taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

The 51-year-old male driver has been charged with DWI, and may face additional charges.
