A man retaliating for an earlier stabbing by shooting at another man’s house was arrested by Rochester Police after he broke his leg while jumping off a roof.

Police say the incident began when 51-year-old William Pettway allegedly stabbed and injured a 14-year-od boy during a dispute between neighbors that turned into a fight. Pettway was arrested on second degree assault charges.

Police were alerted by the ShotSpotter system to gunfire on Lorenzo Street. Arriving officers heard more gunshots, and spotted 44-year-old Ricardo Casiano on top of a detached garage. Casiano was shooting at his neighbor’s home in retaliation for the fight. 

Casiano jumped when he saw the police and suffered his leg injury. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police determined Casiano’s gun was stolen. They charged him with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property and three counts of reckless endangerment. 

Both arrestess were arraigned in Rochester City Court.
